If you have solar panels, the electricity generated is always used first for your own consumption in the home. This means that appliances such as an oven, a washing machine or a charging station (for your car) can use this electricity directly.

Only once you generate more electricity than you are consuming at that moment is the surplus fed back into the electricity grid. This surplus falls under the net metering scheme.

So it does not matter which appliance consumes the electricity, whether that is your car or another household appliance, your own consumption always comes first. Only the remainder goes to the grid.
